Dog Toys Without Stuffing

My dogs like the toys that have squeakers in them. I can bring home any toy with a squeaker and they are on it! If I bring home anything else, like a rope toy or a hard plastic ball, they could care less. The problem with a lot of the toys that have a squeaker is that they are surrounded by stuffing and sewn inside the toy. When the toys finally tear or chew through the outer skin of the toy to get at the squeaker, they also end up with clumps and pieces of the stuffing all over the place. I also have a bad feeling that they may be eating some of the stuffing, which cannot be good for them.

I t was gratifying to discover a new line of dog toys at the pet shop today. They have the same fur-like skin and a squeaker, but no stuffing. They are priced the same, which I found remarkable. They have less but charge the same? OK – I guess I can deal with that as the price I have to pay for not picking up clumps of stuffing.

Sheila Bumped Into Me

Pushing my grocery cart through the aisles at Food Lion I was all about trying to find the 9 or 10 things on my shopping list and out of the blue someone bumped into my cart and burst out laughing. My first reaction was to frown, well, scowl and snarl, actually. But then I saw that it was Sheila and I had to bust out a laugh, too.

I cannot believe that Sheila shops at the same grocery store that I do. She is clear on the other side of the Lake and the Kroger is much closer to her. But she says that she likes the smaller store because she can get what she wants and check out ten times faster than going to the huge, crowded Kroger. So I have to agree, I avoid the Kroger for quick trips like today and only go there once every 4 to 6 weeks to stock up on meat and other things that Food Lion doesn’t carry.

School Calendar Controversy

The new Superintendent of Schools has decided that the only way the kids here will learn enough to pass the minimum grade levels tests is to go to school for more days out the year. He wants to take away most of the summer vacation days and make them go to school earlier in the year.

I already think it is ludicrous for the kids to start back the first week of August. That is awfully early to be going to school when most of the rest of the country does not start until after Labor Day. As far as I am concerned, they need to bring in extra teachers and extra tutors to help the kids who are struggling. The kids who are average and better are being punished for being in the same classes as the dumb ones.

Jumper Cables Came in Handy

One of the ladies at work had car trouble today so I tried to help her out. Melinda is a nice person and I don’t interact with her much on the job, but I didn’t mind helping her out. I have a pair of battery cables in the trunk and I gave her car a jump start. I told her to drive it at least 20 minutes without turning it off so the battery will have a chance to re-charge. I hope she got home OK.

One of Those Days

Ever have a day where absolutely nothing goes right? It’s like everything I touch breaks, falls, spills or something bad happens.

I tried to change the water in the fish bowl this morning and I killed the fish accidentally. That made me incredibly sad and frustrated. Trying to do a good thing and mess it up. I think I’ll take a nap and start today over again.
