Cristofori’s Dream

There was a compilation album of new age or easy listening music that included a delightful instrumental by David Lantz called, “Cristofori’s Dream.” As I was not familiar with David Lantz, I did a little surfing to see what I could find.

Turns out that Bartelomo Cristofori was an Italian inventor. He toiled away in a little shop working on harpsichords, one of the primary instruments of the day. He was intrigued with finding a way to make the sound less harsh and worked on modifying the design until he found a way to make the sound he was looking for. Thus, in 1709 the piano was born in his modest Florence shop.

David Lantz wrote this song as a tribute to Cristofori – and it’s beautiful.

Tool Man

Well, today the wife dropped the latest bombshell. She wants to put a guest bathroom downstairs, with the thought that we’ll be making the downstairs into an mother-in-law apartment sometime over the next few years. The downstairs runs along the entire length of the house, so there is plenty of room down there to buildout a couple of rooms for sleeping and watching TV, and if we put in a full bathroom we can plug into that plumbing and put in a tiny kitchen along the shared wall.

The perfect spot for a bathroom is adjacent to the laundry room. We can put in a walk-in tub, a toilet and still have room for a nice sink and vanity. I told the wife to start looking at fixtures and pick out the things she wants so I can get an idea of the prices and we’ll work up a budget for the remodeling project.

Fathers Day

Any man can create a baby. It takes a special kind of man to be a father and create a family. My father and mother had their share of problems over the years, but I never felt that either one would leave our home in anger. They stayed together for 36 years. My father died at age 56 of cancer. I miss you, Dad.
