Joined a Blog Network

There’s a group of people on Facebook who have made a page to share their thoughts and experiences about blogging. It’s been several good discussions and I was reading reading through the comments last night to see if they had any tips I could put to use. Its usually helpful to network with other people and learn from their experience.

The person posting the most was Linda Bradshaw and she obviously has a lot of experience with blogging. She was posting general topics and thought provoking questions, trying to engage all the group. There seem to be a lot of people using the Blogspot and free WordPress.com blogs now. To think that these didn’t even exists as recently as 10 or 12 years ago makes the huge growth even more remarkable. Ten years ago I didn’t even know what a blog was, and now everyone has one.

One thing that I thought was odd is that she doesn’t want people to post the URL to their blogs on that group. She said that people would make reports to Google. That bothers me quite a bit. I would like to think that people with a common interest would not stoop that low. I guess some people are not happy unless they are making someone else’s life miserable. I know people like that.

It would be interesting to see numbers on how many people have a personal blog and actually keep it up for a long time. I heard that most people lose interest as soon as two months after making a free blog, and that 40% of bloggers stop after only 4 months. I guess that makes the long time bloggers a special breed.

Just the Sound Guy

sound guy

Found this poster on Facebook today. I think the person who made this up knows what he is talking about. The sound guy has a great job, but its not all glamour – it can be a lot of grunt work. Still, there’s no music without a sound guy who knows what he’s doing!

Save Me, San Francisco

The album by Train called, “Save Me, San Francisco” is a really good album. I have been listening to it on Spotify.

I was not a fan of the music group, Train, until i saw them perform on a morning TV show. For some reason they were not being played on the local radio stations and I just had not heard of them. The TV show was a quick listen, but it was enough to peak my curiosity and check them out.

That is one of the best parts of joining Spotify. I can listen to music that I would not otherwise get to hear because it doesn’t cost me the out of pocket expense of a while CD to listen to just one song that I might like or might not like.

Magazines are Getting Scarce

I have a box of old magazines and I can’t bring myself to throw them out. I already read them once and the information in them is for the most part, dated or obsolete. But have you noticed that it is getting harder and harder to find magazines for sale in local stores? With all the big bookstores gone, all that is left are some grocery stores and maybe MalMart. I like looking at magazines and I like holding real books in my hands. I sure hope someone finds a way to keep magazines and books available for purchase locally and not have to rely on the internet for it all.

Haircut

Got a haircut today. I just needed to get out of the office for a little while and clear my head. Most days I go out for lunch, but today lunch was not long enough to refortify. I called the receptionist and told her that “I was going to be out for another hour and to forward any calls to my cell phone. It rang a couple of times, but I let it go to voice mail. I just needed that hour undisturbed and doing something for myself for a change. And I look better for it.
