The album by Train called, “Save Me, San Francisco” is a really good album. I have been listening to it on Spotify.

I was not a fan of the music group, Train, until i saw them perform on a morning TV show. For some reason they were not being played on the local radio stations and I just had not heard of them. The TV show was a quick listen, but it was enough to peak my curiosity and check them out.

That is one of the best parts of joining Spotify. I can listen to music that I would not otherwise get to hear because it doesn’t cost me the out of pocket expense of a while CD to listen to just one song that I might like or might not like.

Have you ever noticed that there are very few advice and self help books on the subject of raising teenagers? I always say that the reason is that there are no experts on dealing with teenagers. No one has the magic answer to getting through the teenage years successfully.

It is really hard to deal with kids who are growing quickly, trying to deal with school and their peers, popular culture and testing boundaries. Anyone who can produce a kid that doesn’t end up in jail or pregnant before turning 18 is doing a good job. I know that is a low threshold, but it seems like the majority of kids cannot even measure up to that.

My home team was eliminated from the NFL playoffs last week. It doesn’t really seem like watching any games today will give me much satisfaction. I am not a fan of any of the remaining teams. I think I’ll just close the book on football for this year. With the exception of the Super Bowl. And we all know that most people only watch the Super Bowl so they can see the very best of TV’s commercials. The half time entertainment is going to be Madonna, so I really do not care about the Super Bowl other than the commercials. Isn’t that sad? To think that what should be a tournament of champions and have the whole country united during a game, that the only thing of interest is the commercials that will air?

OK – so this in not New York City and Dick’s Last Resort is not Times Square. Maybe we can do that next year. But I need more than a couple of weeks notice to get that kind of money together. So this was close by, tons of fun, and right on the edge of the downtown craziness. Worked for me!

Gift cards in hand, we headed out to the mall. The place was a mob scene. I knew when we had to park a half mile away from any entrance that it was a bad sign. We went in against my better instincts. I saw a lot of sale prices, but also a lot of empty racks and stuff in the wrong sizes. This is what I hate about shopping. After an hour of that madness we gave up. Maybe one night next week after work we’ll feel brace and head out again. But today, I’m done with stores and the mall.

All I know is that I like turkey and want to keep Thanksgiving based on a turkey dinner. But maybe not turkey again for Christmas. Maybe its time for another goose at Christmas?

I’m fine with staying home, but it is not the same as being out in the street for a big party with free concerts and fireworks and 100,000 drunks singing “Auld Lang Syne.” Heck, if we are going to go out, why not just do it up and go to New York City? That is one big party at Times Square! Wouldn’t it be fun to be a part of that?

I have a box of old magazines and I can’t bring myself to throw them out. I already read them once and the information in them is for the most part, dated or obsolete. But have you noticed that it is getting harder and harder to find magazines for sale in local stores? With all the big bookstores gone, all that is left are some grocery stores and maybe MalMart. I like looking at magazines and I like holding real books in my hands. I sure hope someone finds a way to keep magazines and books available for purchase locally and not have to rely on the internet for it all.
